Plants vs. Zombies: Thymewarped is a remake and redesign of Plants vs. Zombies 2 designed by Krayleb, with major changes to gameplay and level design to be slower but have more in-depth mechanics without rushing the player or forcing them to adapt to ridiculous level design.
Plot[]
Dr. Zomboss has developed a plan to rewrite all of time so that the zombies would take over everything from waaay back in time to ensure that they would maintain superiority. Crazy Dave does not want this to happen, and reveals to the player that he has invented a time-travelling RV, Penny. Penny is able to take the player and Crazy Dave across the timestream.

Gameplay[]
Like the other Plants vs. Zombies games, players plant down plants in order to defend from incoming zombies. Each plant requires a certain amount of sun to be able to plant them down, and each one requires a certain amount of time before they can be placed down again.
Power Mints[]
Each plant belongs to at least one or two Mint families, which are categorized based on their general functions and abilities. Plants will receive buffs from their respective Power Mints although these buffs are much less impactful than in the original game. Each mint can be bought for $20,000 in the store, and will only be usable in the Endless Zone only.
The Thirteen Power Mints:
- Ail-mint: Poisoning and mushroom plants
- Appease-mint: Straight-shooting and pea plants
- Arma-mint: Launching and cannon plants
- Bombard-mint: Explosive plants
- Contain-mint: Supportive and stalling plants
- Enchant-mint: Magic plants
- Enforce-mint: Melee and close-range plants
- Enlighten-mint: Sun-producing plants
- Fila-mint: Electric and energy plants
- Pepper-mint: Fire plants
- Reinforce-mint: Defensive plants
- Spear-mint: Piercing and direct hit plants
- Winter-mint: Ice plants
The Shovel[]
The shovel is a tool that can be used to dig up any plant on the lawn that the player doesn't want to be there. By clicking on the shovel and then on the undesired plant, the player will be able to remove that plant.
Lawnmowers[]
Lawnmowers are a defensive item that are placed at the very back of every lane and serves as the last line of defense. Zombies that trigger it will cause the lawnmower to drive down the lane and decimate all the zombies in that lane, as well as destroy any grid items such as gravestones and statues. They cannot respawn normally, so players will have to make sure that they are only used in emergency situations.
Currencies[]
Sun[]
Sun is the main currency, and the first introduced. Sun is used to buy plants to place them down. Starting off with only 50 sun, players will need to gather more sun through any that falls through the sky during day levels or through plants that produce sun like Sunflowers and Sun-shrooms. The maximum number of sun you can have at one time is 9990, and at the end of a level every 100 sun will be converted into a penny. Sun ranges from 15, 25, 50, to 75.
Money[]
Money is the second currency introduced in Thymewarped, and can be obtained through defeating zombies, being produced by Marigolds, Zen Garden plants, or through completing levels and earning money bags or mystery gift boxes. Money allows players to buy things from Penny's Space-Time Emporium such as premium plants, and Power Mints. While regular money bags give $1,000 and are obtained through beating most levels, big money bags are rare, but give $5,000 when obtained.
The maximum amount of money players can collect is $999,990. Money ranges from Silver Coins ($10), Gold Coins ($50), Zombucks ($100), and Diamonds ($1000).
Plant Food[]
Plant Food is a collectible item. You can obtain through defeating glowing zombies. Plant Food can be applied to plants to provide a power boost to most plants. Plant Food
Sprouts[]
Sprouts are a Zen Garden-exclusive item which can be converted into new plants to place in your Zen Garden. You can earn them through Mystery Gift Boxes, defeating zombies or purchasing them through the shop.
Mystery Gift Boxes[]
Mystery Gift Boxes are earned after beating certain levels, and they can provide players with coins, sprouts for the Zen Garden, shop vouchers or costumes. Rare Gift Boxes are a red variant, and can provide three items.

Adventure Mode[]
After the player completes the tutorial, there are twenty main locations in Thymewarped's adventure mode; each one based on different time periods visited in the base Plants vs. Zombies 2, the Chinese version of the game, and a couple of brand new additions. Each world has 25 levels, with the twelfth and twenty fifth levels being huge onslaught attacks involving Gargantuars while seven levels feature brain buster levels providing unique challenges for the player.
In order to progress further, players must beat the first 12 levels of the previous world in order to get access to the next world, but completing all 25 levels in a world gives the player a trophy, access to the Endless Zone, and one step closer to unlocking Modern Day (which requires you to beat all 19 preceding world levels before being playable).

Outbreaks[]
Outbreaks are events that occur after beating worlds. Starting from Wild West - Day 25, you will get alerts from the Travel Log stating that worlds you've previously visited have been invaded by zombies from the world you've just defeated. After beating Wild West for example, zombies from that world will travel to Pirate Seas to continue their attack there.
In an Outbreak, there are three levels to play, each with mechanics from either or both worlds, different brain busters, and an unlockable plant at the end of the levels. Starting from Dark Ages, new zombies can be introduced which will then show up in the Endless Zone for both the invaded world AND the world invading.

Differences from Plants vs. Zombies 2[]
- The entire story has been changed, Crazy Dave no longer travels back in time with Penny to try and eat the same taco twice. The plot instead focuses on an evil scheme from Dr. Zomboss.
- The world order has been dramatically changed; each world having 25 levels, at least nine new plants to unlock, reworked difficulties to be harder or easier than normal, and the amount of worlds being increased to twenty.
- Several custom worlds have been added, as well as multiple Chinese spin-off game worlds.
- All worlds have their own gimmicks and mechanics, and starting from level 16 in each world a new mechanic will be introduced to make things more challenging.
- Adventure levels all have names, allowing people to remember them better and go back to them.
- A majority of adventure levels have been redesigned and altered to be more fair and much more unique in zombie encounters rather than sending the same few zombies each time.
- Gems have been removed as a currency for the game. Instead, they provide players with $1,000 when clicked on like in the original game.
- Removed leveling system from the game, and the game is slower than the vanilla Plants vs. Zombies 2 game.
- All store-brought plants cost in-game coins instead of real money, not that microtransactions are inherently bad for a game.
- All bosses have been removed, each final level being a three flag Gargantuar attack with the exception of Modern Day.
- Shadow plants are no longer Shadow plants. Plants like Moonflower, Shadow-shroom and Dusk Lobber are Lunar plants instead, changing abilities depending on if the level is set at day or night.
- Because of this, Conceal-mint is no longer a Plant family nor a plant.
- Many plants and zombies have had their stats altered to suit the game more, with weaker plants like Pepper-pult and Perfume-shroom getting buffs to make them more versatile while plants like Cold Snapdragon and Primal Potato Mine have been reworked and nerfed to be more balanced.
- Some plants have been completely changed in appearance. Scaredy-shroom and Gatling have been redesigned to look more like their original counterparts to be less bad.
- Endless Zones now function like the Survival Endless mode from Plants vs. Zombies. Rather than choosing new plants each level and starting from scratch, players will build upon their defences after each attack and encounter different zombies.
- Each Endless Zone will feature Veteran zombies from Plants vs. Zombies 2; a Brickhead variant, a Giga-Gargantuar variant, and three upgraded versions of zombies previously encountered in that world.
- Modern Day's Endless Zone can feature any and all zombies from other worlds, including Veterans from other zones.
- Each Endless Zone will feature Veteran zombies from Plants vs. Zombies 2; a Brickhead variant, a Giga-Gargantuar variant, and three upgraded versions of zombies previously encountered in that world.
Trivia[]
- Wild West and Lost City are the only returning worlds from Plants vs. Zombies 2 where no Zombies from any Chinese spin-off game make an appearance.
- Stone Ages, Industrial Evolution, Renaissance Age, Manchu Dynasty and Heian Dojo all originate from Chinese spin-off games.
- Stone Ages is an enhanced version of Primitive Tribe from Plants vs. Zombies: All-Stars.
- Industrial Evolution, Renaissance Age, Manchu Dynasty and Heian Dojo all come from the Chinese Version of Plants vs. Zombies 2.
- Arabian Nights, Revolting Revolution, and Ancient Greece are custom worlds, completely new creations designed for this game.
- Roman Colosseum is also new, but uses the Zombosseum lawn and most of the Penny's Pursuit Roman zombies.
